kundalini

(n.) kundalini from Sanskrit, kundalini means snake, coiled one.

In yogic traditions, it is the latent female energy believed to lie coiled at the base of the spine. Kundalini refers to a form of primal energy (or Shakti) which can be purposefully aroused through yogic practice. Kundalini energy once activated transforms the individual as it rises through the spine through the subtle body to the crown of the head. Like a lotus, the individual rooted in the earth rises up.
